The Peel Adult Learning Centre (PALC) is a non-profit community organization in the Region of Peel. We provide adult learning opportunities to a diverse group of individuals from our community, and throughout the Region. We have been successfully delivering academic upgrading programs for over 30 years.
We currently seek an enthusiastic and dynamic
Academic Upgrading Instructor
to join our team at our Brampton location. This is a full-time, in-person position.
As an
Academic Upgrading Instructor,
you will support adult
students in developing essential skills in communication, math, and digital technology. You will prepare students for the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC), college mature student tests, apprenticeship, and employment. Our program is delivered in a group setting and tailored to meet individual learning needs.

Main Responsibilities:
Design and deliver engaging, interactive lessons in critical reading and writing, math, and digital technology
Teach all components of the CAEC, along with essential skills needed for success in further education and employment
Create individualized programs that focus on students’ needs and goals
Foster a respectful and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and community
Understand and respond to the challenges adult learners may face, including those affecting well-being and success
Identify when students need additional support and collaborate with staff to provide wraparound services
Provide timely feedback and daily marking of student work
Conduct ongoing assessments, monitor progress, and maintain accurate student records
Required Experience and Skills:
A university degree in a related discipline and a valid Ontario Teaching Certificate (OTC) and/or a Master of Education is required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain concepts clearly and in an accessible manner
Similar teaching experience is required, including confidence in teaching math and an understanding of student math anxiety.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, etc.)
Demonstrates patience, support, and compassion when working with diverse adult students
Demonstrated ability to create an inclusive and respectful learning environment that upholds the dignity of all students
Understanding of the barriers adult students may face and the ability to respond in a non-judgmental and encouraging way
Highly organized, with the ability to monitor student progress, maintain records, and report accurately
Previous experience in a not-for-profit or community-based setting (preferred)
Hours of Work:
Monday to Friday – 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. – 30 hours /week
