<p>CARPENTER</p><p>START DATE: As soon as possible</p><p>Position Title: Carpenter</p><p>Department: Facilities & Operations</p><p>Reports To: Maintenance Supervisor – Facilities & Operations</p><p>Union Status: CUPE </p><p>Location: Administration Office</p><p>Hours: Regular Full-Time</p><p>Wages: $37.87 per hour as per CUPE </p><p>Language Requirement: English</p><p>Job Description Reviewed: September 15, 2025</p><p><em>Purpose of Position</em></p><p>The Carpenter provides a variety of repair and construction services necessary to maintain the Division's facilities and grounds in accordance with all governing codes.</p><p><em>Key Responsibilities</em></p><p><em>Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:</em></p><ul><li>Provides support for a wide variety of repair and services necessary to maintain and upgrade the Division's facilities and grounds.</li><li>General work includes (but is not limited to) roofing, eavestroughs and downspouts, flooring (carpets, vinyl tile, hardwood, ceramics, baseboards) wall surfaces (drywall, stucco, masonry), ceilings, windows, doors, hardware, concrete, chalkboards, tackboards.</li><li>Designs and constructs cabinets and other millwork to meet facility requirements.</li><li>Assists in determining requirements for repairs, planning development, and work, as necessary.</li><li>Prioritizes work to meet deadlines.</li><li>Verifies receipt of goods for invoicing approval.</li><li>Makes efficient use of time and materials.</li><li>Maintains records of work performed.</li><li>Maintains Divisional tools and equipment in safe and good working conditions.</li><li>Ensure the worksite is maintained in a safe and orderly fashion.</li><li>Works cooperatively with other divisional staff and contractors.</li><li>Performs other duties as may be assigned to support the efficient operation of the Department.</li></ul><p><em>Skills and Qualifications</em></p><p>Skill and Knowledge – Required:</p><ul><li>Journeyman status (carpenter).</li><li>Minimum of 8 years work experience in construction.</li><li>Variety of other expert skills (concrete, welding, hardware, small engine repairs, etc.)</li><li>General computer knowledge.</li></ul><p>· Strong communication and interpersonal skills.</p><p>· Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure, multi-task and prioritize.</p><p>· Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.</p><p>Skill and Knowledge – Desired:</p><p>· Experience in Workplace Safety and Health.</p><p>· Prior experience in an educational environment.</p><p><em>Conditions of Employment</em></p><p>· Police Information Check</p><p>· Child Abuse Registry Check</p><p>· Completion of Commit to Kids or Respect in Schools training</p><p>· New Employee Safety Orientation</p><p>· Accessible Customer Service and Accessible Employment</p><p>· Code of Conduct</p><p>· Class 5 Drivers License</p><p><em>Working Conditions & Physical Demands</em></p><p>· Work involves some standing, walking, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and lifting.</p><p>· Ability to lift objects weighing more than 25 kgs.</p><p>· May be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, fumes, and hazardous/poisonous chemicals.</p><p>· On occasion it may be required to work beyond normal working hours, including weekend or evening work with short or no notice.</p><p>· Provide emergency responses outside of regular work hours when required.</p><p>Job Type: Full-time</p><p>Pay: $37.87 per hour</p><p>Expected hours: 40 per week</p><p>Work Location: In person</p>
