CAMH Foundation
CAMH FOUNDATION – CHIEF DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
THE ORGANIZATION
The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation (CAMHF) was established in 1998 to inspire philanthropy that enables leading-edge care, research and education at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) – Canada’s leading hospital for mental health. CAMHF is charged with raising and stewarding funds to help transform the way we understand and treat mental illness. With annual revenue of approximately $100 million, the CAMHF team of 85 staff works closely with donors, sponsors, partners and Hospital stakeholders to drive positive change for CAMH and the cause of mental health.
Our generous and dedicated supporters help CAMH advance discovery and innovation, build spaces that promote recovery, and break down the stigma of mental illness. Together we are leading a movement that will create a society that believes Mental Health is Health.
The Foundation’s first fundraising campaign, launched in 1998, had a goal of $10 million. The campaign took place at a time when stigma remained deeply entrenched and many community leaders were reluctant to openly attach themselves to the cause of mental illness and addiction. Supported by a group of prominent leaders and dedicated volunteers, the Foundation’s brand campaigns tackled stigma and paved the way for success. Since that time, CAMHF has raised more than $1 billion to support the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
Earlier this year, CAMHF celebrated the close of the world’s largest fundraising campaign to support hospital-based mental health research. The $500 million No One Left Behind campaign surpassed goals raising more than $600 million in support of life-saving mental health research programs at CAMH, the construction of the Temerty Discovery Centre and Waverley House Secure Care and Recovery Building at CAMH’s Queen Street site in Toronto.
While CAMH is an established global leader in mental health care, research, education and advocacy, there is much more work to do. This is a pivotal time for CAMHF as the organization has developed its strategic plan which will be operationalized under the leadership of a new Chief Executive Officer. The new strategic plan will support the goals of the Hospital’s Connected CAMH Strategic Plan. It is the Foundation’s goal to assist the Hospital in realizing its ambitious vision by building on past success and leveraging the opportunities ahead. Philanthropic interest in mental illness is reaching unprecedented levels, powering discovery and creating hope for significant breakthroughs into the causes and cures for mental illness. CAMH Foundation has the unique opportunity to capitalize on this moment and to provide an impactful contribution.
