Position Overview


Our Client is a leading and rapidly growing Canadian private lender specializing in complex and creative financing solutions for commercial real estate developers and owners. With a proven track record in structured finance and a strong national presence, they are expanding their lending capabilities through the creation of a dedicated CMHC-insured lending platform. This strategic initiative is critical to their next phase of growth.

They are currently seeking an experienced and well connected best-in-class CMHC leader to lead the development, execution, and growth of the new CMHC-insured lending business.

This chosen candidate will have deep expertise in CMHC multi-family financing, a strong industry network, and a proven ability to build high-performing teams. They will be a dynamic leader with an entrepreneurial spirit, the ability to establish the platform’s infrastructure, policies and procedures in line with CMHC guidelines. They will also serve as the lead originator for insured and conventional commercial mortgage opportunities across Ontario.

Role Responsibilities

Platform Development & Leadership


  • Design, launch, and scale CMHC-insured lending platform
  • Build and lead a high-performance team of underwriters and originators focused on CMHC business
  • Develop internal policy, procedural manuals, and workflow systems aligned with CMHC and investor requirements
  • Act as the primary liaison with CMHC, ensuring full regulatory compliance and up-to-date program knowledge

Origination & Relationship Management

  • Act as the senior origination lead for CMHC-insured and conventional loans, focusing on corporate borrowers across Ontario
  • Manage and grow strategic relationships with developers, brokers, REITs, and CMHC-approved correspondents
  • Source, structure, and secure applications for term and construction loans, ensuring strong credit fundamentals
  • Represent at industry conferences, CMHC events, and relevant housing forums

Loan Structuring, Submission & Approval


  • Guide underwriting team in preparing robust credit submissions with full CMHC documentation
  • Lead submission and negotiation of CMHC Certificates of Insurance for multi-family projects

Execution & Portfolio Oversight

  • Oversee loans through commitment, due diligence, and funding stages to ensure performance and retention
  • Resolve deal-related issues in real-time across underwriting, legal, and funding teams

Market Intelligence & Strategic Input


  • Provide feedback on market trends, policy shifts, and product development opportunities
  • Offer insights to enhance product offerings in the CMHC and affordable housing space
  • Support marketing and investor engagement efforts with market intelligence and transaction insights

Desired Qualifications


  • Minimum 10+ years of experience in commercial real estate finance, with deep expertise in CMHC multi-family term and construction lending
  • Proven ability to build and lead CMHC lending platforms or teams
  • Strong industry network of borrowers, developers, brokers, and CMHC counterparts
  • Expert-level knowledge of CMHC guidelines, underwriting criteria, and approval processes
  • Track record of closing complex CMHC-insured deals and managing full transaction lifecycle
  • Excellent negotiation, credit structuring, and relationship management skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Salesforce, Excel, and commercial real estate financial models
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, or Real Estate; MBA or CFA is an asset
  • Toronto-based or willing to travel as required to meet clients and partners across Canada
