Reporting to the Assistant Vice-President, Strategic Programs the Director Health Initiatives is responsible for the development, delivery and execution of new and existing strategic health initiatives under the Strategic Programs portfolio to achieve targets and drive portfolio growth. The Director Health Initiatives will lead the team associated with the specific initiatives providing tactical guidance and coaching to staff and creating through his / her leadership a positive and stimulating work environment. The Director Health Initiatives demonstrates strong leadership, strategic thinking, effective project management skills and has an extensive background working in the healthcare sector with strong connections in and knowledge of the Ontario Health Network and partners.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Provide operational leadership to implement, manage and deliver health initiatives under the strategic programs portfolio, working collaboratively across the organization to meet targets and deliverables, organizational objectives and the evolving needs of stakeholders.
  • Thought leadership and outreach to a broad range of health and life sciences stakeholders across Ontario, including globally leading technology companies, SMEs, Ontario Health Network and Partners and others.
  • In collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders including the Ministry of Health, Ontario Health and the Ontario Health Network , defines, develops and overseas program criteria, processes including review, administration, specifications, and evaluation tools to drive procurement of health technologies in Ontario.
  • Develop and execute the health initiatives strategic planning process and report on initiative performance using quantitative and qualitative metrics, making data driven decisions and adjustments as necessary.
  • Acts as the liaison and facilitator between multiple health and life sciences stakeholders to ensure initiatives are established in a mutually operationally effective way, meeting targets and initiative expectations and meeting the desired outcomes.
  • Lead staff who are assigned to the team, including providing guidance and coaching, providing a clear sense of purpose and direction, and creating through his / her leadership a positive and stimulating work environment. Ensure roles, responsibilities, accountabilities, and authorities of the team are defined and understood and that appropriate performance management programs are in place.
  • Manage the allocation of resources, including budget and personnel, to support the successful implementation of health initiatives.
  • Develop and implement monitoring and reporting mechanisms to track the progress and impact of the initiatives and regularly analyze data and performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.
  • Develop and manage baseline processes, procedures and templates for the health initiatives working collaboratively across the organization ensuring consistent, efficient, transparent processes are in place that provide a robust audit trail.
  • Support the development of new initiatives and enhancements to current initiatives to secure new funds.
  • Build and maintain the OCI network, focusing on the identification and development of improvements and growth opportunities to the assigned health initiatives, and opportunities to improve current ones.
  • Support and drive strategic partnership and collaborative opportunities with the various ministries and stakeholders to co-develop and negotiate new and existing programs and initiatives. Serving as OCI’s link to the funding ministries for all program elements and investment opportunities that will support the assigned strategic program(s).
  • Provide direction and guidance to OCI service groups as it relates to the team activities (e.g., Marketing / Communication and Finance groups on key deliverables) as well as support relating to other programs and activities at OCI.
  • Plan, develop and deliver, in consultation with Marketing and Communications, events (e.g. workshops, seminars, regional network meetings).
  • Accountable for the identification and development of information for related success stories in conjunction with the Marketing and Communications group.
  • Keep abreast of industry trends and developments, incorporating best practices and new innovations into the health initiatives where appropriate.
  • May be required to perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Formal, specialized post-graduate education in Technology or Business related to health and life sciences.
  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience in the health and life sciences sector.
  • Strong knowledge of and existing connections within the Ontario Health Network and partners.
  • Proven leadership ability and management of a team with diverse skillsets and experience.
  • Knowledge of working elements in the public sector and Ontario’s innovation ecosystem would be an asset.
  • Extensive stakeholder management experience with the ability to cultivate strategic partnerships and broker and close deals.
  • Demonstrated experience in a multi-party, collaborative project environment.
  • Highly developed interpretive and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Impeccable work ethic, highly motivated and passionate, and clearly driven by success.
  • Team player and self-starter who can consistently accomplish critical organizational objectives on time.
  • Distinctive problem solving and analytical skills and impeccable business judgement.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Occasional work required outside of normal business hours, including attendance at occasional external events.
  • Occasional travel (10-20%) within Ontario to visit healthcare stakeholders around the province.
  • Bilingual (French and English) an asset.
