The Research team at Paradigm Capital Inc. (“Paradigm Capital“) is looking to hire a mining research associate to join the Toronto office.
Overview of Paradigm Capital: Paradigm Capital is a Canadian independent investment banking firm with a sales, trading, research and corporate finance focus providing services for institutional investors and corporations. Paradigm Capital was founded in 1999 and is a member of the Toronto Stock Exchange, the TSX Venture Exchange and the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada.
Our Equity Research department covers 111 stocks across diverse sectors and provides institutional fundamental, quantitative, and technical analysis to our clients. Our mining franchise is an important part of Paradigm’s business, with 74 names under coverage across precious and base metals and ranging from early-stage exploration to senior producers.
Qualifications and Experience: The research associate position at Paradigm Capital will appeal to highly motivated individuals that are interested in working in an entrepreneurial and high-energy environment. Our lean and flat team structure will provide exposure to a significant and wide variety of projects. We are seeking candidates who have a geology background and interest or experience in capital markets with a willingness to work against tight deadlines and perform under pressure. Candidates ideally have a technical background, financial modeling and analytical abilities, excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as a positive, enthusiastic and co-operative attitude. Specific Responsibilities
- Maintain detailed mining financial models and analysis for both precious and base metal companies
- Experience with resource estimation software such as Leapfrog or Genesis
- Perform extensive industry- and company-specific research
- Attend mine site visits as part of due diligence process
- Prepare materials and presentations for senior analysts as required
- Attend meetings with corporate and buy-side clients alongside senior staff
- Present investment ideas to sales and trading team
- Wide range of other analytical tasks as required
Qualifications
- Candidates should have 2 – 5 years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in Geology or a related field of study
- A good understanding of mining, processing and geological terminology
- Excellent spoken and written communication skills
- Excellent numerical and analytical abilities, and strong attention to detail
- Exceptional financial modeling skills
- A positive, enthusiastic and co-operative attitude
- Ability to succeed in a team environment
- Experience with Bloomberg and Factset is considered an asset
