Firefly Spark (@firefly.spark on IG) is a fast-growing social app launching across Ontario, built to help Gen Z turn “let’s hang out sometime” into something real. We make it easy (and exciting) to meet up in the moment through spontaneous micro-events called Sparks—all backed by a simple deposit system that helps cut the flakiness and bring people together.
At its core, Firefly Spark is about one thing: ending loneliness by making real-life connection feel effortless again.
We launched our MVP in April and saw 500+ downloads in two weeks. Now, we’re preparing for a full rebuild with better user flows, stronger incentives, and a deeper emphasis on front-end polish.
Role Description
This is a remote, volunteer role for a Front-End Developer – Core Contributor at Firefly Spark. You’ll be responsible for turning polished UI/UX designs into clean, functional, and responsive front-end code for our mobile app.
Your day-to-day will involve implementing new features based on Figma wireframes, debugging and refining front-end interactions, and collaborating closely with our back-end and design teams to ensure smooth integration and a seamless user experience across devices.
Qualifications
- Solid experience in React Native (or React with an interest in switching)
- Strong understanding of components, hooks, async logic, and state/context
- Eye for UI/UX detail and layout (bonus if you’ve worked with animations or transitions)
- Willingness to commit 20–40 hours/week for the next 2–3 months
- Bonus: Experience with Expo, Firebase, TypeScript, or analytics platforms (PostHog)
