Join to apply for the HVDC Engineer role at Jacobs.

At Jacobs, we’re challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world’s most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery, and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.

Your impact

The energy industry, particularly transmission grids, is undergoing major changes to accommodate regional and global decarbonization and energy transition targets. HVDC technology is increasingly becoming a major player in this energy paradigm shift, enabling large-scale renewable energy generation such as offshore wind or large interconnectors.

As an Engineer – HVDC, you will work closely with regional and global HVDC and power transmission experts within Jacobs to support and lead ongoing HVDC projects, as well as business development and proposal support with clients including renewable developers, transmission owners/developers, and utilities.

The successful candidate shall demonstrate experience and technical knowledge in electrical high-voltage engineering, with emphasis on HVDC, through past experience with consulting engineering firms, developers, or OEMs. Knowledge of electrical design/studies, specifications, and commissioning related to HVDC systems is preferred. Familiarity with the offshore wind market is a plus.

We value collaboration and believe in-person interactions are crucial for our culture and client delivery. Our hybrid working policy allows employees to split their work week between offices and remote locations to perform at their best.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assist clients in HVDC/HVAC technology selection;
  • Conduct conceptual, pre-FEED, and FEED design studies and drawings;
  • Develop converter station specifications;
  • Liaise with OEMs for converter stations and HVDC cables;
  • Witness FAT/SAT testing;
  • Collaborate with other disciplines such as cable engineering, environmental permitting, GIS, geotechnical, civil, etc.;
  • Support business development and bid preparation for HVDC projects;
  • Represent Jacobs at industry conferences such as IEEE and CIGRE.

Note: While the focus is on HVDC, other electrical and high-voltage transmission tasks may be assigned.
