Objective & Overview

The Income Tax Manager role forms part of the North American Tax team and is located in Mississauga, Ontario. Reporting to the Canadian Head of Tax with a dotted line to the Senior Income Tax Manager, this position manages all aspects of the Canada group’s income tax compliance and audits.

This role will also include managing the SR&ED claims, assisting in the quarterly and year-end tax provisions, where necessary, and providing support to the Canadian Head of Tax with ad hoc projects.



Responsibilities

Close interaction with other members of the Canadian tax team
Close interaction with Business Units, Regional Finance Staff and ABS group (shared services)
Able to work as a member of diverse teams including members from different functional areas such as treasury, accounting & finance, legal and various locations and time zones. 
Interaction with external financial auditors as well as tax authorities 



Specific Accountabilities

Oversee and ensure timely and accurate compliance with all federal and provincial tax regulations while working to minimize tax liability, reduce effective corporate tax rate and maximize after-tax profits while avoiding fines and penalties;
Where necessary, ensure timely and accurate tax provision preparation and financial reporting in accordance with IFRS (IAS 12) in a large and fast-moving international organization with complex and detailed requirements;
Establish and maintain appropriate tax controls and policies for internal tax compliance processes that ensure timely filings and payments (up to $100M + per year) and communicate these policies, as appropriate, to all stakeholders;
Establish and maintain relationships with external tax auditors and negotiate significant audit issues (range from $1 million to $50 million);
Manage third party consultants to ensure the annual SR&ED claims are filed on time with the appropriate documentation in place to support such claims;
Keep abreast of changes in tax statutes and regulations, including proposed legislation, at the federal and provincial level, and incorporate relevant changes in policies, processes and returns;
Maintain knowledge of international tax, transfer pricing rules and regulations to ensure compliance requirements are met;
Perform research, document and present findings on issues affecting the Canadian tax structure to the Senior Income Tax Manager, Head of Tax-Canada and others either orally or in written form, including large group presentations;
Assist the Head of Tax and/or the Senior Income Tax Manager in the review of business transactions, including mergers and acquisitions to identify tax implications;
Identify and implement process improvements related to tax compliance and audits gained from both internal reviews as well as outside audits;
Mentor and train staff in a positive way that builds an engaging work environment;
Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environments and areas;
Maintain personal and corporate integrity in all actions.



Dimensions

This position reports to the Head of Tax – Canada who in turn reports to the Chief Tax Officer – North America. This position also has a dotted line to the Senior Income Tax Manager.

The position has one direct report.



Qualification Profile

Education & Experience:Undergraduate degree in accounting, business, commerce or equivalent experience required
Professional accounting designation required (CPA or equivalent)
A minimum of 7 years of accounting and tax experience in public accounting and/or within the tax department of a multinational corporation required
Master degree in Tax or CPA in-depth tax course (Levels 1 to 3) completion required.
