<h3>Job Description</h3><p>Job Description<p><p>Our Substation group is currently looking to add a <strong>Journeyman Electrician</strong> to our growing team.</p><p>Reporting to the Substation Construction Foreman, the role of Substation Construction Electrician is to perform site construction activities individually or with small, dedicated workgroups. In this role the Journeymen Electrician is expected to lead and participate in the construction of medium and high voltage electrical systems within a substation while ensuring project construction is executed effectively and safely. They are also responsible to identify any potential changes or field issues as they arise and bring to the Foreman’s attention and will work with the Foreman to identify timelines for work activities as well as notify when the work fronts have been completed.</p><p><em>Please Note: This is a field-based position working an 8 day on / 6 day off rotation that can be based from Winnipeg, MB or Thunder Bay, ON. LOA is provided. </em></p>Duties and Responsibilities<ul><li>Lead and participate in the construction of medium and high voltage electrical systems</li><li>Performs substation steel erection, cable tray building, and cable trench, bus, HV equipment and steel structure installation proficiently</li><li>Oversee the installation and commissioning of medium and high voltage transformers, switchgear, and associated equipment</li><li>Proficiently handle cable installation for medium and high voltage power distribution systems.</li><li>Proficiently terminate medium and high voltage cables, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards</li><li>Interpret medium and high voltage electrical blueprints, schematics, and diagrams for planning and executing installations and terminations in construction projects</li><li>Manage Material deliveries and inventorying of Materials as per the assigned work fronts, identifying any potential risks and bringing to the Site Supervisors and Foreman’s attention</li><li>Ensure that the crew supports the Valard Quality Management team’s requirements </li><li>Ensure that Valard’s equipment and tools are being used in safe and professional manner; the tools are accounted for daily; any defective tools and equipment are tagged out of service and brought to the foremen’s attention</li><li>Work with Site Supervisor and Foreman to understand the full scope of the project to identify changes in scope and address with the Foreman immediately</li><li>Must be able to effectively manage small work groups</li><li>Maintain daily diary for record keeping purposes</li><li>Comply and follow Valard’s Safety Policies and Procedures and work with new hire employees to ensure they understand and adhere to Valard’s safety policies and procedures</li><li>Address Crew any issues/Conflicts with Site Foreman as they arise</li><li>Work with on-site Safety Advisor to address any safety concerns brought forth by crews and or Client</li></ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><ul><li>4 years of experience in the construction industry </li><li>Journeyman Electrician (Red Seal) certification</li><li>Knowledge of various construction disciplines, safety regulations, and understanding quality control</li><li>Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend blueprints and an understanding of SCADA systems</li><li>Comprehension of pertinent basic EB & G Principles and of lock out tag out procedures</li><li>Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record</li><li>Demonstrated ability to Manage small sized work groups safely and efficiently</li></ul><p></p><p><strong>Preferred Skills / Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Demonstrated expertise in medium and high voltage electrical systems (particularly in construction settings) and cable terminations</li><li>Experience in medium-to-high-voltage substation construction</li></ul><p></p><p><strong>Job Posting End Date</strong>: October 28, 2025</p><p><strong>Benefits</strong></p><p>We offer a comprehensive and competitive total rewards package that incorporates a complete range of employee benefits, including an RRSP matching program, to ensure you have the tools necessary to manage, maintain, and improve your health and wellbeing. </p><p><strong>About our Business</strong></p><p>Valard Construction is Canada’s premier utility contractor providing comprehensive EPC+ (engineering, procurement, construction) and maintenance services to utilities, independent power producers, mining, oil and gas industries and rural electric associations.
