David Schaeffer Engineering Limited (DSEL) are looking for bright and motivated individuals that are eager to work at DSEL in the role of Junior Designer.

Designers at DSEL can creatively contribute to the design of large-scale subdivisions at both the preliminary and detailed design phase. Working alongside and learning from the company’s senior and intermediate civil engineers, Junior Designers utilize the very latest proprietary software and play a key role in the design and development of communities throughout Ontario



Reporting to a Senior Designer, the Junior Designer will work alongside a team of designers and shall participate in all areas of the subdivision design including sewers, watermains, grading and stormwater management

DSEL is an engineering consulting/technology firm located in Markham, Ontario in the business of subdivision design for over 25 years. We are industry leaders in the design of large residential subdivisions in the Greater Toronto and Ottawa area.



What You’ll Do


  • Assist in both the preliminary design stage with establishes overall site strategies and at the subdivision detailed design stage where the drawings will be approved by the appropriate municipalities and issued for construction
  • Prepare designs for storm and sanitary sewers, road and lot grading and storm water management ponds
  • Prepare cross sections and details for various elements of design
  • Prepare AutoCAD Civil 3D models to determine earthworks strategies and calculate volumes of cut and fill
  • Assist in preparation of hydraulic calculations relating to sewer capacities, open channels, and culverts
  • Prepare engineering drawings with use of AutoCAD
  • Prepare composite utility plans and aid in co-ordination with various utility consultants
  • Co-ordinate & communicate with internal team members and other departments

What Will Help You Succeed In This Role


  • Undergraduate degree in civil engineering, or a related engineering program
  • Strong understanding of AutoCAD and good general computer skills including Excel and Word
  • Detail-oriented, demonstrate good problem-solving abilities, and are interested in continually learning new skills
  • Proven ability to communicate ideas clearly in a technical and non-technical manner, both written and verbally
  • Highly motivated, organized, and work well in a team environment
