Lead Engineer - Machining
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Education: High School Diploma OR GED
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in an Engineering Specialist – Process / Controls position.
- Must have the ability to serve as a confident technical mentor to the production organization.
Preferred Requirements:
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering preferred. (Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained. If the degree was obtained from a school outside of Canada, an Education Credential Assessment report showing Canadian equivalency is also required.)
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in a unionized environment.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies.
- Proficiency in problem-solving and corrective action techniques, including 8D and 5Why.
- Familiarity with Lean tools such as 5S, Kanban, Poka-yoke, and Value Stream Mapping.
- Experience with quality management tools like Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), Design of Experiments (DOEs), and Visual Factory Management.
- Competent data analysis capabilities using Minitab and Quality WorX for large amounts of data, with GB (Green Belt) or BB (Black Belt) certification.
- Well-versed in strict adherence to Quality Operating Systems.
- Proficiency in resolving issues quickly through root cause analysis and driving change back to production departments.
- Well-demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Support Manufacturing Process Engineering activities for Assembly or Machining operations.
- Drive continuous improvement in safety, quality, and productivity.
- Apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to improve manufacturing processes and products.
- Develop action plans to investigate quality concerns and verify corrective actions for internal and supplier processes.
- Lead and conduct process audits to ensure discipline aligns with Powertrain Operations guidelines.
- Conduct job ergonomic evaluations and implement corrective actions.
- Analyze inventory root causes and implement corrective actions to reduce inventory.
- Create process and instruction sheets supporting quality methods.
- Deliver capable processes and tools for machining or assembly.
- Lead resolution of process concerns, variability reduction, and lean manufacturing initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with Plant, Corporate, Governmental, and Environmental standards.
- Back up International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 compliance and support internal ISO auditing.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within machining or assembly areas.
