<p>This position works out of our Ottawa, Ontario location in the Point of Care, Diagnostics division. We’re empowering smarter medical and economic decision making to help transform the way people manage their health at all stages of life. Our Point of Care diagnostic portfolio spans key health and therapeutic areas, including Chemistry, Electrolytes, Hematology, Blood Gases, Coagulation, Endocrinology, Cardiac Markers, Neurology, and Informatics. The Manager, Environmental, Health & Safety, provides strategic leadership to support division, international sites and global commercial organizations with efforts related to environmental and safety compliance. The role drives continuous improvement in EH&S performance through culture, programs and processes.</p>
<h3>What You’ll Do</h3>
<ul>
<li><p>Acts as the primary interface for the senior leadership team (SLT) on all matters relating to EH&S including but is not limited to, strategic planning, initiatives and compliance, management responsibility, communications, training, metrics/KPIs and audits, that impact the business both directly and indirectly.</p></li>
<li><p>Understands Abbott Corporate EH&S policies, guidelines and strategies and translates into meaningful plans and goals for the division sites in Canada and U.S and global commercial teams to ensure that EHS requirements are met in an effective and timely manner.</p></li>
<li><p>Understands, interprets, and ensures compliance with US and Canadian local governmental safety regulations (Occupational Health and Safety Act, MOL, OSHA, etc.) and Abbott Corporate Procedures and Standards. Stay current with environmental regulations so the organization’s EH&S policies remain current and relevant.</p></li>
<li><p>Manages all aspects of corporate EH&S Audits including audit requests, logistics, actions, deliverables, and responses and ensure all sites remain audit ready.</p></li>
<li><p>Provides direction and guidance for waste management strategy to ensure compliance with data reporting, Corporate and local regulations, and long terms goals.</p></li>
<li><p>Responsible for ensuring the required Abbott EH&S Management and Technical standards are adhered to throughout the Division including robust training regime.</p></li>
<li><p>Responsible for collecting EH&S metric data, such as waste, injuries, vehicle accidents, etc. for local and corporate reporting purposes.</p></li>
<li><p>Works collaboratively with management to review areas of ownership and opportunity related to EH&S performance. Mentors people managers on EH&S best practices, establishes a culture of safety.</p></li>
<li><p>Manage Fleet safety metrics for APOC global Commercial through establishing and monitoring KPIs and working collaboratively with management to address improvement opportunities.</p></li>
<li><p>Acts as liaison with Third Party Occupational Health Services Provider to ensure that business and employee needs are met including return to work interviews, monitoring of absence levels, escalating any concerns to Management.</p></li>
<li><p>Leads the safety committee mandate and inspections. Follow-up with area owners on safety related opportunities.</p></li>
<li><p>Leads and supports Continuous Improvement (CI) Initiatives while providing encouragement, motivation, and support to team members. Researches, evaluates, and recommends changes to improve EH&S performance.</p></li>
<li><p>Responsible for designing and promoting safety awareness programs and educating employees and leaders about EH&S responsibilities while promoting a culture of safety.</p></li>
<li><p>Provide expertise and advice on EH&S issues to area managers.</p></li>
<li><p>Maintains relationships with the community, environmental groups, or other stakeholders impacted by the EH&S performance of the organize.</p></li>
</ul>
<h3>Required Qualifications</h3>
<ul>
<li><p>10 + years of experience understanding EH&S regulations and a track record implementing programs and processes that ensure the organization remains in good standing order.</p></li>
<li><p>Bachelor's degree.</p></li>
<li><p>Proven effective leadership, managing large groups, with good influence techniques, ability to manage several levels of management, from frontline leaders to Senior Leadership.</p></li>
<li><p>Effective communication with various levels of management, demonstrates clear communication techniques.</p></li>
<li><p>Experience managing EH&S programs in a large manufacturing facility.</p></li>
<li><p>Medical device manufacturing an asset.</p></li>
