Position: Sr. Director, Head of Data Operations (Toronto)

Position Summary
The Senior Director, Data Operations, will guide the development and ongoing operation of OMG’s business intelligence tools and technologies, technical solutions, and data governance processes. The role requires a strong familiarity with common media analytics and technology tools, both syndicated and proprietary. The ideal candidate must be able to proactively communicate ideas and opportunities, build strong relationships with internal and external partners, and grow the data operations practice across the Canadian offices. The candidate must have a mindset towards fostering processes through automation, as well as establishing data as the backbone of other OMG media disciplines.
Primary Responsibilities
Administrative & Departmental Development
- Work with OMG Global Central Team, and local Annalect and Business Operations teams to establish agency-level standard Data Operations practices and thought leadership. Oversee application of such standards across all OMG accounts.
- Act as subject matter expert on data operations and business intelligence solutions; prescriptively advise how they should be applied to deliver against client needs. Proactively contribute to new business pitches, including assessing organizational needs and staffing requirements.
- Draft client statements of work (SOWs) and/or service-line agreements (SLAs) during contract negotiations, re-negotiations and renewals
- Work with OMG leadership, across Business Ops, Data Ops and Finance, both onshore and offshore, to establish resource rate cards, platform and staffing costs and various business engagement requirements
- Align resources to accounts based upon client business requirements and/or SOWs. Recruit new employees, as needed.
- Serve as the escalation point to address critical business issues; have direct conversations with internal teams and clients, as needed. Support the development of short-term plans to prioritize needs and to resolve urgent issues.
- Analyze employee time utilization to ensure employee hours are properly scoped to the right projects
- Periodically evaluate current and potential business intelligence (BI) platforms to ensure they deliver against evolving requirements of internal and client reporting
Data Management & Strategy
- Collaborate with the Head of Data Solutions on both overall OMG, and individual client, data strategy
- Collaborate with Business Ops and Ad Ops to establish agency taxonomy naming convention standards, adoption strategy and execution workflow
- Actively promote the use of OMG solutions to standardize taxonomy creation and implementation
- Define standards and best practices for data ingestion, data harmonization, data storage, data governance and dashboard visualization
- Act as the subject matter expert for projects relating to data quality and business rules
- Demand best practices are being followed by onshore and offshore data teams across all engagements
- Lead and manage cross-functional and cross-organizational teams to understand complex data issues involving multiple systems
- Establish priorities, develop improvement plans, allocate resources, and implement solutions
- Keep up to date on digital operations – buy changes, creative specifications, etc
Data Governance & Documentation
- Lead the development of a comprehensive departmental data management and integrity program, including being accountable on cross-account adoption of a coordinated governance process
- Provide consultation to junior employees to ensure industry data standards are appropriately utilized and leveraged to drive data quality and compliance and to ensure impact is minimized and/or mitigated appropriately
- Drive cross-discipline documentation process and create standardization for validating the implementation, optimization, and reconciliation of all campaign data
- Oversee the documentation of processes, workflows, and technical implementations of any project. Proactively identify, propose, and generate targeted solutions for data quality issues and operational inefficiencies.
People & Project Management
- Socialize OMG and agency task staging/RACIs – ensuring clarity on roles, responsibilities and expectations across teams
- Supervise Directors and Managers to perform data operations, data quality assurance and client management tasks. Provide guidance to team members and promote a team environment.
- Accountable for growth of direct reports. Tailor OMG, client and personal goals to develop and emphasize strengths of each direct report.
- Act as liaison between OMG internal team leads, and onshore and offshore data operations teams, to improve the collaboration process for validating the implementation, optimization, and reconciliation of all campaign data
- Foster positive relationships working with internal teams (Client Business Leads, Strategy, Marketing Science, Investment, Programmatic, Search, Social)
- Create and manage project plans and tasks in project management platforms such as Hive and Microsoft Teams
- Develop effective project plans for new implementation and change logs for ongoing data and account management
Account Data Ops Leadership
- Provides leadership across data quality and management; identify opportunities for improvement and growth across several accounts
- Work with direct and indirect reports to facilitate the timely delivery of accurate, quality, usable, and accessible data for various performance use cases
Experience, Skill and Technical Requirements
- 10+ years’ experience in data operations and/or business intelligence, including 8+ years in a management role, 2+ years in a senior management role
- 8+ years’ experience (media agency, in-house media team or retail media network), working directly with media data (ad server, display & video, search, social, offline, etc)
- 8+ years’ experience in an agile development environment
- Minimum 8 years’ experience in client facing work
- Experience managing teams that are onshore and offshore
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and project management skills (scoping, task staging, resource and change management)
- Advanced proficiency with one or more of: Salesforce Marketing Cloud Intelligence (fka Datorama), Power BI, Alteryx, Tableau. Experience with Google BigQuery and Looker/Looker Studio a plus.
- Intermediate proficiency with Amazon Web Services (S3, Redshift)
- 3+ years’ experience with project management platforms such as Hive, Asana or Smartsheet
- Intermediate proficiency with Excel and PowerPoint
