Job Description
At BBO, we’re more than just consultants – we’re problem solvers, collaborators, and community-shapers. As a proudly NZ-owned consultancy of engineers, planners, and surveyors, we deliver projects that matter - from highways, bridges, and transport networks to land development and council infrastructure.
We’re big enough to take on large-scale, multidisciplinary projects – yet small enough to stay agile, personable, and genuinely connected as a team. At BBO, you’ll never be a cog in the wheel – your leadership, ideas, and decisions directly influence outcomes.
Here’s what you’ll find at BBO:
- A grounded, non-hierarchical culture where you can be yourself and lead with confidence.
- Diverse, challenging projects that stretch your skills and broaden your expertise.
- The backing of multidisciplinary teams of engineers, planners, and surveyors.
- A consultancy that truly punches above its weight in the scale and impact of projects we deliver.
- A supportive environment where your leadership is valued and your mentoring grows the next generation of talent.
The Challenge
As a Senior Project Manager in our head office in Hamilton, you’ll take the reins on complex civil infrastructure projects across the North Island, from early planning through to delivery. You’ll:
- Partner with clients and technical leads to define project goals and deliverables.
- Manage scope, schedule, budget, risk, and outcomes to ensure project success.
- Provide clear leadership to project teams, coordinating multiple disciplines.
- Oversee subconsultants and contractors, including contract administration.
- Build strong, trusted client relationships through open communication and excellent service.
- Balance competing priorities with pragmatic, well-reasoned recommendations.
- Mentor and develop our talented project delivery team.
What You’ll Bring
- A relevant qualification in Civil Engineering (BEng preferred) or Project Management (e.g., PMP accreditation).
- Ideally Chartered (NZ-CPEng) or well on your way – with BBO backing your progression.
- 10-15+ years’ experience delivering large-scale or complex civil infrastructure projects.
- Proven experience as a client-side or consultant-side Project Manager.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams and make confident decisions.
- Flexibility to travel for client meetings and site visits (including occasional overnight stays).
