The Role
Kobo’s is seeking a Tax Analyst to join our Finance team! Reporting to the Senior Tax Manager, this person will help support our global tax function. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of indirect tax principles, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. This role offers an excellent opportunity to expand your tax knowledge and contribute to the continuous improvement of our tax processes.
Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly/quarterly/annual sales tax and VAT returns (including GST/HST/QST/PST filings)
- Prepare monthly sales tax/VAT reconciliations
- Liaise with external tax consultants to compile necessary tax documentation and workpapers for tax compliance
- Review notices of assessment and communicate with tax authorities, supporting analyses required for tax audits
- Stay up-to-date on legislative changes related to Canadian and foreign indirect tax
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of tax processes, controls, and documentation
- Participate in ad hoc tax projects
- Assist with the implementation and maintenance of tax software and automation tools
- Document and maintain accurate records of tax filings, payments, and related documentation
- Analyze large datasets to identify tax optimization opportunities and potential compliance issues
The Skillset
- 2+ years of indirect tax experience. Experience in other areas of tax (Canadian/International income tax, transfer pricing) an asset but not required
- An interest in expanding knowledge on global VAT, sales tax, income tax and transfer pricing
- CPA Designation a strong asset
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including experience with data manipulation and analysis (e.g., pivot tables, vlookups).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a high degree of accuracy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate tax concepts to non-tax professionals.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) is a plus.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
