Our client located in Whitby, ON is looking for an Training Officer on temporary basis – 3 month contract with strong potential to extend.

This role is ideal for someone passionate about workforce development, safety, and operational excellence in a technical and fast-paced environment. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Training Officer will be responsible for budgeting, planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating training initiatives that align with regulatory requirements, industry best practices, departmental and regional goals.



Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee vehicle, equipment, technical and safety training programs for maintenance and fleet personnel, including onboarding, equipment operation, preventative maintenance, and compliance.
  • Direct, manage and oversee staff throughout the day-to-day operations of the training department.
  • Supervise and support training staff or subject matter experts involved in program delivery.
  • Ensure training materials and manuals are current, accurate, and aligned with legislative and operational standards (e.g., OHSA, CVOR, MTO).
  • Lead and manage training projects and initiatives that are designed to reflect and advance the strategic goals of the Maintenance Operations and Fleet Services divisions.
  • Manage and oversee the company’s Driver Certification Program, ensuring compliance with applicable legislation and internal standards.
  • Serve as a designated and authorized individual by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU) for the delivery and validation of required training and certifications, ensuring compliance with provincial standards and quality assurance protocols.
  • Complete and manage accident reviews, including root cause analysis and documentation, and prescribe targeted training to address identified issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and managers to identify training needs and performance gaps.
  • Manage personal skill development, staying current with emerging best practices, regulatory changes, and certification requirements to ensure training programs remain relevant and effective.
  • Monitor training effectiveness through data collection, analysis, and reporting to support continuous improvement.
  • Act as a technical resource, providing expert guidance on procedures, safety protocols, and operational standards.
  • Promote a culture of continuous learning and professional development across all levels of staff.
  • Align training strategies with departmental and corporate objectives to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure all training activities comply with health and safety legislation and corporate policies.


Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Adult Education, Technical Training, Transportation, Public Works, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in developing and delivering training programs in a technical or municipal operations environment.
  • Strong understanding of fleet and maintenance operations, safety regulations, and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience supervising staff or managing training projects is an asset.
