Description<br><p>Position #: 159188<br><br>Expected Start Date: March 2, 2026<br><br>Union: HSAS<br><br>Facility: Addictions Outreach Office<br><br>City/Town: Saskatoon<br><br>Department: Addiction Serv Res Care Unit&Trtmt Facil-Adlt Outreach&Target Prev Services<br><br>Type: Full-time temporary</p><p>Expected Up to Date: March 2, 2027<br><br>FTE: 1<br><br>Shift Information: Days, Evenings<br><br>Hours of Work: shifts of 224 hours per 6 weeks<br><br>Relief: No<br><br>Float: No<br><br>Field Hours: Yes<br><br>Salary or Pay Band: Pay Band Addictions Counsellor - Diploma $29.584 to $36.176<br><br>Travel Required: No<br><br>Job Description: The Addiction Counsellor, accountable to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions Services, will primarily be responsible for supporting individuals that present with substance use and mental health issues. They will be required to assess an individual's needs and develop a treatment plan. This may include short term counselling and/or referrals to longer term resources and they may need to case manage the coordination of stabilization services to enhance a successful referral to ongoing services. The Addiction Counsellor must be able to recognize the elements of a client in crisis and implement immediate action appropriate to the crisis. This may include assessing for risk of suicide and developing a safety plan. They need to maintain a working knowledge of MHAS internal departments and services, and community resources including the ability to collaborate with and make referrals.<br><br>Human Resources Exemption: No<br><br>Education</p><ul><li>Chemical Dependency diploma</li></ul><p>Licenses</p><ul><li>Valid Class 5 driver's license</li></ul><p>Other Education and Training</p><ul><li>Completed social sciences or human services discipline acceptable to employer</li></ul><p>Competencies</p><ul><li>Writing skills</li><li>Communication skills</li><li>Computer skills</li></ul><p>Knowledge and Abilities</p><ul><li>Knowledge of motivational interviewing</li><li>Ability to be self-directed, creative, collaborative and to have sound judgement</li><li>Knowledge of the Mental Health Services Act</li><li>Knowledge of substance abuse/ addictions issues and mental health issues</li><li>Knowledge of community programs/services</li><li>Knowledge of MHAS and SHA philopsohy and objectives</li><li>Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team</li><li>Knowledge in Transtheoretical model of change</li><li>Knowledge in principles for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Services for Saskatchewan</li><li>Ability to work and communicate in a cross cultural setting</li><li>Knowledge of addictions and integrated human service delivery services</li><li>Client-centered screening, assessment and recovery planning with adults/families</li></ul><p>Other Information</p><ul><li>Preference to HSAS members as per the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement</li><li>For more information on the city of Saskatoon please visit </li></ul>
