Overview
City Clerk & Director of Legislative Services
Join to apply for the City Clerk & Director of Legislative Services role at City of Burlington.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work model. When attending an event or meeting in person, your primary office location will be City Hall (426 Brant St). Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Effective January 2026 this role will be required to be on site 50% of the time each month.
Position Overview
We are seeking a high performing individual to lead and administer the Clerk's department. As the City Clerk you will provide leadership and direction in citizen and council committee support, information management and FOI requests, municipal elections, and act as a corporate signing officer for the Corporation. You will provide advice to the Chief Administrative Officer and Council on administrative matters, and all statutory functions related to the Clerk's position, ensuring all documents relating to Council are managed appropriately.
Responsibilities
- Lead the leadership and administration of the Clerk's department and ensure appropriate systems (manual and electronic) are in place to manage the corporation’s records.
- Protect vital information in accordance with by-laws and policies.
- Act as the Designated Head for Freedom of Information requests and drive digital transformation of the City’s records as a key project.
- Provide timely advice to the CAO and Council on administrative matters and fulfill all statutory functions related to the Clerk's role.
Requirements
- Undergraduate degree in public administration, business administration, political science or a related field.
- Preferred: A completed professional designation (for example: Certified Municipal Officer from AMCTO).
- Seven or more years of progressive and diversified government experience (three at a management level); highly organized, politically astute, and able to build positive relationships at all levels within an organization.
- Experience in managing people, building relationships and developing trust with Council and staff, and navigating a complex and dynamic organization.
- Occasional travel between sites and/or City facilities may be required.
Salary Range: CA$146,616.00 – CA$183,270.00 per year (Grade N)
