Your leadership will directly influence the TELUS TV+ platform, enabling a frictionless setup experience and helping us achieve our mission of delivering reliable, scalable, and customer-focused video solutions.</p><p>What you'll do in this role</p><p>As a Software Development Manager, you will lead a talented team of backend engineers and drive operational excellence for our metadata services and customer-facing APIs. In this role, your focus will be:</p><ul><li>Leadership & Team Empowerment<ul><li>Lead, coach, and mentor a high-performing squad of backend engineers, fostering a DevOps-first and customer-first mindset</li><li>Inspire innovation, technical ownership, and continuous learning within the team</li></ul></li><li>Technical & Delivery Excellence<ul><li>Oversee the design, development, deployment, and operation of APIs powering multiple TELUS TV+ client applications</li><li>Drive improvements in our software development lifecycle (SDLC), release practices, and end-to-end delivery pipelines</li><li>Partner with product managers, architects, to define feature roadmaps, prioritize work, and deliver with quality</li></ul></li><li>Operational Reliability & Customer Experience<ul><li>Champion an operations mindset by ensuring high availability, observability, and performance across services</li><li>Lead initiatives to reduce setup friction and customer-impacting errors and collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve customer pain points</li></ul></li></ul>
<h2>Qualifications</h2>
<p>What You Bring:</p><ul><li>5+ years in software development leadership, managing backend/API engineering teams</li><li>Proven experience delivering cloud-native, microservices-based solutions at scale</li><li>Strong understanding of API design, distributed systems, and service observability</li><li>Extensive hands-on experience across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), including designing, coding, testing, deploying, and operating complex software systems</li><li>Strong foundation as a software engineer with prior experience in developing, troubleshooting, and delivering high-quality solutions before moving into leadership roles</li><li>Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality, customer-centric software solutions that scale to millions of users</li><li>Hands-on knowledge of DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and site reliability principles</li><li>Track record of improving SDLC processes, engineering velocity, and operational health</li><li>Excellent communication skills to collaborate across engineering, product, operations, and executive leadership</li></ul><p>Nice-to-Haves</p><ul><li>Experience in video streaming, metadata systems, or large-scale content platforms</li><li>Familiarity with GCP (Cloud Run, GKE, Spanner, Pub/Sub) or similar cloud platforms</li><li>Background in capital planning, cost optimization, or vendor management</li><li>PMP, CSM, or equivalent Agile leadership certifications</li></ul><p>#LI-REMOTE #LI-HYBRID</p>
