This role requires individuals who have <strong>prior experience working in shelters or similar high-interaction environments</strong>, supporting vulnerable populations.</p><p> </p><p>The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong <strong>de-escalation skills</strong>, the ability to <strong>multi-task in a fast-paced setting</strong>, and professionalism when managing challenging behaviors. This position plays a critical role in maintaining a <strong>safe, respectful, and controlled environment</strong> for residents, staff, and visitors.</p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Access Control & Monitoring</strong></li><ul><li>Control and monitor access to the facility</li><li>Verify identification, manage entry logs, and ensure only authorized individuals enter the shelter</li></ul><li><strong>De-escalation & Conflict Management</strong></li><ul><li>Respond to behavioral incidents involving shelter residents or visitors</li><li>Utilize verbal de-escalation techniques and trauma-informed approaches</li><li>Maintain calm, professional conduct in high-stress or emotionally charged situations</li></ul><li><strong>Safety & Security Patrols</strong></li><ul><li>Conduct routine patrols of the interior and exterior of the facility</li><li>Identify and report safety hazards, suspicious behavior, or policy violations</li><li>Secure doors, exits, and restricted areas</li></ul><li><strong>Emergency Response</strong></li><ul><li>Respond to medical, fire, security, or behavioral emergencies</li><li>Assist staff during evacuations or critical incidents</li><li>Follow site-specific emergency and incident response protocols</li></ul><li><strong>Incident Documentation</strong></li><ul><li>Complete detailed and accurate incident reports</li><li>Communicate effectively with supervisors, shelter staff, and emergency services when required</li></ul><li><strong>Collaboration with Shelter Staff</strong></li><ul><li>Work closely with shelter staff to support daily operations</li><li>Provide security support during resident interactions, intakes, and high-risk situations</li></ul></ul><p><strong>Required Skills & Experience</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Minimum 1-2 years of security experience in a shelter, supportive housing, or similar environment</strong></li><li>Proven experience working with <strong>vulnerable populations</strong></li><li>Strong <strong>verbal de-escalation and conflict-resolution skills</strong></li><li>Ability to <strong>multi-task</strong>, prioritize, and make sound decisions under pressure</li><li>Excellent communication and observation skills</li><li>Ability to maintain professionalism, empathy, and authority simultaneously</li></ul><p><strong>Minimum Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Valid <strong>Ontario Security Guard License</strong></li><li><strong>First Aid & CPR Certification</strong></li><li>Must be <strong>18 years of age or older</strong></li><li>High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent work experience)</li><li>Legally eligible to work in Canada (up to 40 hours per week)</li><li>Ability to work <strong>overnight shifts</strong>, weekends, and rotating schedules</li></ul><p><strong>What We Offer</strong></p><ul><li>Career growth and advancement opportunities within Allied Universal®</li><li>Paid training and professional development</li><li>Supportive leadership and structured site protocols</li></ul><p><strong>Background Screening</strong></p><p>As part of Allied Universal&#39;s standard hiring process, all candidates must successfully complete a background check, which may include criminal history, employment verification, education verification, and reference checks.</p>Closing<p>Allied Universal® is an inclusive and equitable employer, encouraging applications from qualified women and men including persons with disabilities, members of visible minorities, and Aboriginal persons.</p>Requisition ID<br><br>2026-1518832</p></p>
