<h3>Job Description</h3><p>Job Description<p><p>Job Title: Senior Estimator<p><strong>Company:</strong> General Contractor<br /><strong>Project Types:</strong> Institutional (Educational Renovations & Additions), Commercial (Office Fit-Outs)</p>Job Summary<p>The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating process for institutional and commercial construction projects, including educational renovations, building additions, and office fit-outs. This role plays a critical part in pre-construction by preparing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates while providing strategic input on construction methods, phasing, and risk management—particularly for projects in occupied or live environments.</p>Key Responsibilities<p><strong>Estimating & Pre-Construction Leadership</strong></p><ul><li><p>Lead the preparation of detailed cost estimates from conceptual through tender stages</p></li><li><p>Review drawings, specifications, and contract documents for scope completeness</p></li><li><p>Develop Class D to Class A estimates, including conceptual and design-development budgets</p></li><li><p>Identify risks, assumptions, and value engineering opportunities</p></li></ul><p><strong>Institutional & Commercial Expertise</strong></p><ul><li><p>Prepare estimates for renovations and additions in active educational facilities</p></li><li><p>Account for phasing, after-hours work, safety requirements, and operational constraints</p></li><li><p>Estimate commercial office fit-outs with fast-track schedules and tenant-driven requirements</p></li></ul><p><strong>Trade Procurement & Analysis</strong></p><ul><li><p>Prepare bid packages and solicit subcontractor and supplier pricing</p></li><li><p>Analyze bids for scope compliance, pricing accuracy, and risk exposure</p></li><li><p>Level trade bids and provide clear recommendations to management</p></li></ul><p><strong>Cost Planning & Value Engineering</strong></p><ul><li><p>Provide cost advice during design development and pre-construction meetings</p></li><li><p>Propose alternative construction methods and materials to optimize cost and schedule</p></li><li><p>Support clients and consultants with cost studies and feasibility analyses</p></li></ul><p><strong>Collaboration & Mentorship</strong></p><ul><li><p>Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and leadership during pre-construction</p></li><li><p>Support project handover from estimating to operations</p></li><li><p>Mentor junior estimators and contribute to standardization of estimating practices</p></li></ul><p><strong>Reporting & Documentation</strong></p><ul><li><p>Prepare detailed estimate reports, clarifications, and exclusions</p></li><li><p>Maintain historical cost data and unit pricing</p></li><li><p>Support change pricing and budget updates during construction, as required</p></li></ul>Qualifications & Experience<ul><li><p>8+ years of estimating experience with a General Contractor</p></li><li><p>Strong background in <strong>institutional <span >renovation/addition</span></strong> and/or <strong>commercial fit-out</strong> projects</p></li><li><p>Proven experience leading tenders and complex pre-construction budgets</p></li><li><p>Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field</p></li><li><p>Experience working on projects in occupied or operational environments is a strong asset</p></li></ul>Skills & Competencies<ul><li><p>Expert knowledge of construction methods, materials, and market pricing</p></li><li><p>Strong analytical and problem-solving skills</p></li><li><p>Excellent communication and presentation abilities</p></li><li><p>Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously</p></li><li><p>Proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office tools</p></li></ul>What We Offer<ul><li><p>Opportunity to lead pre-construction on meaningful institutional and high-quality commercial projects</p></li><li><p>Key role in shaping project success from early stages</p></li><li><p>Competitive compensation and benefits package</p></li><li><p>Long-term career growth within a stable and professional organization</p></li></ul></p></p></p>
