The successful candidate will act in the capacity of a technical resource to provide support and assistance with underwriting efforts as required.</p><p></p><p><strong>Duties and Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Responsible for managing Marine claims in accordance with Liberty Mutual Guidelines and Special Service Instructions.</li><li>Provide coverage of other first party claims, as per the needs of the business.</li><li>Coordinate with insureds, brokers, defence and coverage counsel and other service providers in the pursuit of efficient and effective claims handling.</li><li>Reviews reports from all external sources, and analyzes, investigates, and evaluates the loss to determine applicable coverages and claim disposition. </li><li>Establish appropriate reserves and reviews reserves regularly to ensure adequacy.</li><li>Identify and escalate complex or high exposure claims to management.</li><li>Manage claims throughout the litigation process, including retention and direction of counsel, budget oversight, and compliance to litigation guidelines.</li><li>Prepare comprehensive reports, including reinsurance, large loss, and pre-trial reports.</li><li>Actively participate in settlement conferences, mediations, arbitrations, and pre-trials. </li><li>Maintain timely file notes, claims’ diaries, and disposition plans in compliance with internal procedures. </li><li>Identify and escalate complex or high exposure claims to management and communicate emerging claims trends or policy issues to underwriting and risk management. </li><li>Act as a technical resource and subject matter expert, supporting underwriting, risk management, and the training and mentoring of junior staff. </li><li>Represent Liberty Mutual at client and broker meetings, industry events, and on national/global initiatives or committees, promoting the company’s claims expertise.</li><li>Provide leadership support and quasi-management assistance, as required. </li><li>Participation on a Liberty Mutual Canada National Committee is encouraged. </li><li>Travel throughout Canada and the United States as required. </li><li>Maintain a regular in-office presence of at least two days per week, in accordance with organizational requirements </li></ul><p></p><p><strong>Skills & Qualifications:</strong></p><ul><li>Bachelor’s and / or advanced degree / diploma or equivalent relevant work experience. </li><li>A minimum of five years of claims experience, with an emphasis on marine cargo and / or hull & machinery.</li><li>Knowledge of other first party lines will be considered a great asset.</li><li>Highly advanced knowledge of claims handling concepts, practices and techniques, to include but not limited to coverage issues, and product line knowledge.</li><li>Functional knowledge of law and insurance regulations in various jurisdictions.</li><li>Demonstrated superior verbal and written communications skills.</li><li>Highest level of advanced analytical, decision making and negotiation skills.</li></ul><p></p><p><em>Liberty Mutual Canada is committed to pay transparency and fair, equitable hiring. For roles based in Ontario, we publish a Target Hiring Range in compliance with the Ontario Pay Transparency Act. </em></p><p><em>This posting is for an active, current vacancy.</em></p><p><em>Target Hiring Range: CAD $130,000 – $160,000</em></p><p><em>This range represents the expected annual base salary for this role, however, offers above the published maximum may be approved with appropriate business authorization. Final offers will be determined based on each candidate's qualifications, relevant experience, internal equity, and the needs of the role. The posted range does not include variable compensation (bonus), allowances, or benefits.
